Félix Vallotton, La Maison rose, Varengeville, 1904 Estimate: €70,000 – €100,000 Impressionist & Modern Art – Day Sale, Christie’s Paris, April 10, 2025 © Christie’s Images Limited 2025

From April 2 to 10, 2025, during the week dedicated to 20th and 21st-century art sales, Christie’s Paris will pay a tribute to Félix Vallotton (1865–1925). For the first time, previously unseen works with exceptional provenance will be brought to market in the April 10 sale. As part of the "Vallotton Year", marking the centenary of the artist’s passing, Christie’s will spotlight Vallotton’s enduring influence, which continues to captivate collectors and inspire contemporary artists alike.

Painter, printmaker, illustrator, sculptor, art critic, and novelist, Félix Vallotton was a central figure of the Nabi movement. His works are highly sought after and held in prestigious institutions such as MoMA, the Musée d’Orsay, and the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne—his birthplace and home to the foundation that bears his name. In 2025, this foundation will spearhead "Vallotton Year", a major cultural initiative commemorating the centenary of his legacy.

Four previously unseen works, kept away from the public eye since their creation, will be offered for the first time. All originate from the private collection of Pierre Chapuis, a physician and close friend of the Vallotton family.

Among the highlights: La Maison rose, Varengeville (€70,000–100,000) and Paysage côtier (€30,000–50,000) showcase Vallotton’s mastery in capturing light within landscapes. Paysage (Guernesey) (€3,000–5,000), a delicate work on paper, offers a glimpse into the artist’s more intimate creations. Mont-Blanc (€3,000–5,000) exemplifies Vallotton’s expertise in woodcut engraving, a medium in which he remains a true master. A rare sculpture, Jeune mère (also known as Femme et enfant(€20,000–30,000) completes this exceptional collection.

This sale and its accompanying exhibition are part of a broader cultural program led by the Félix Vallotton Foundation to honor the artist’s centenary. The highlight of this commemoration will be a major retrospective at the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, featuring 200 works alongside the latest research. This landmark exhibition will reaffirm Vallotton’s lasting impact and the profound influence he has exerted for over a century.

Presenting 200 works and based on the most recent research, it will highlight the heritage of Vallotton and the lasting influence he has exerted over the century.
